Arumeru West Integrated Program

  • Funded By: European Union, Irish Government, and NOVIB through Oxfam GB.
  • Between 1997 and 2003 CBHCC together with two local NGOs namely CASEC (Community Aid And Small Enterprises Consultancy) and WEGCC (Women Economic group Coordinating Council) implemented an integrated development programme in 12 villages of Arumeru District (Arusha District Council).
  • The project was funded by European Union, Irish Government, and NOVIB through Oxfam GB.
  • An estimated population of 40,000 people benefited with this program by then. More other people have continued to benefit by this program especially access to safe and clean water to date.
  • CBHCC specifically was responsible in implementing water supply scheme, sanitation, health and hygiene by designing and constructing four gravity water schemes which included four water tanks (2- 50,000 gallons and 2- 30,000 gallons)
  • CBHCC also was involved in developing water project operation and maintenance system, training of water committees, and in the formation of community based organization (CBO) to oversee the water program
  • The organisation trained community peer health educators, traditional birth attendants and village health committees to oversee health activities
